Three countries in the Gulf and from there - travel to almost 20 countries pretty much summarises a large part of my working life. 

 

The epoch making exit from Mumbai's hectic life and a jump to exotic Dubai in 1984 has a very special significance in our family lives. It involved a transformation of Indian middle class family life to a Gulf pattern in more ways than one. But let me start from the beginning. 

 

Entered post-IIMA work life with Planning Commission, New Delhi - thanks to the 'persuasion' by the Placement Chairman. Delhi was certainly the most enjoyable part of my bachelor & married life with food, friends, daru, movies, concerts, picnics, foreign trips, exotic destinations et al, along with many IIM and other interesting friends. Besides Delhi, more share of fun living in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune & Aurangabad. 

 

As they say - seen it all, done it all. 

 

Countries lived & visited: Holland (practically lived there), France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, England, Sweden, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hongkong, China, Japan, USA, Canada, Mexico, UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Egypt and Cyprus. Just managed to drown (well, almost) myself in Cancun, Mexico (location for a James Bond Movie). Personally love Paris and Amsterdam. Most memorable - lived on a ship on river Koln, Germany (1997)

 

Jobs: Worked for world's top Electronics Giants- PHILIPS, SONY & AIWA, n-Logue Communications - an IIT Madras venture, Skypak Couriers, Anil Chemicals, Safal Market (a NDDB company), Jumbo Electronics - Dubai, Almoayyed Electronics - Bahrain and KFB Group- Saudi Arabia and lastly Investment Banking - Batliwala & Karani Securities. Was offered a great job in Times Group, New Delhi - but never joined. Currently settled in Nagpur, romancing with Life and Health Insurance business. Who says - you can't change job to another Industry !!!

 

Passions: Western music (Mozart and Beethoven) and others. . . a personal favourite - Valentina Lisitsa on piano (Beethoven "Für Elise"). English Movies (Alfred Hitchcock), Chess & puzzles, Table tennis and Train Travel (I have many stories on that). I love adventure, intrigue, risks & GKR. Say - it is a Libra feature. 

 

Wife : Meenakshi (a Gujju from Ahmedabad but OK nothing to do with IIMA), married in July 1979. 

 

Shveta - Eldest daughter - B. Com, MBA (from Chennai). Looking for her soulmate. 

Sonal- B. Tech. (from Surathkal), MBA (IIMC) - married into Punjabi Jain family. 

 

Our son-in-law, Shreyans Jain & Sonal - both work for Microsoft, Redmond, USA. 

Shalin - B. Tech (BITS, Pilani-Dubai Campus), worked several years in Dubai for ThyssenKrupp Elevators. Now in USA for his dual Masters in ECE and Management at University of Florida. 

 

Alex - Our Labrador pet - acquired him in April 2002 at the age of 3 weeks- stole our hearts for 13 years. Passed away in June 2015. 

 

No - We are NOT Grand Parents yet
