S. S. Alam came to IIM directly from IIT Kharagpur in 74 and cleared SPA in 76’. He is married to Mrs. Feroz Alam and blessed with 3 daughters out of whom 2 are married and settled in UK and KSA respectively. The 3rd one is giving parents company and finishing BBA from Narsee Monjee Mumbai. 

 

Alam is well settled post retirement in Powai Mumbai and keeping himself busy with a heavy lifting load of running two boutique companies as Founder Chairman; one in consulting space with 20 very well-known friends as co-founders with similar background of IIT/IIM/ foreign qualifications (with two MNC Consulting companies as collaborators). He is also now dabbling into the e-commerce space which is yet to get launched in January with fairly novel concepts and preparations keep him extremely busy. 

 

Alam has a flair for taking up some of the most difficult assignments - be it handling of very strong militant unions including CITU and Dr. Datta Samant, or most difficult to handle bosses, or supporting the promoters in difficult turnaround cases. In return God blessed him with most promising designations including Sr. VP, Executive VP, Corporate President, Group Director (MD scale), and also Chairman Group Management Committee of a $5bn FMCG conglomerate operating out of 42 countries and covering 19 businesses. 

 

Had a chance to handle quite a few Corporate functions including HR, Total Quality Movement, Strategy, Sales, Knowledge Mgt., Improvement Mgt., Corp. Communication (quite a few times 3-4 Corporate functions at the same time), apart from new business creation from scratch. One of the pride project was to handle as a part of global steering committee a very large footprint of ERP project worth $25 million, which Oracle claims to be one of the largest footprint worldwide

 

Health has kept pace pretty well in all difficult situations except one of coping with an angioplasty in 2010, post which life has been equally active with full energy levels back.
