Right after graduating from IIMA, I had joined ONGC. After the initial training, I joined at Bombay High Project where I stayed for the full calendar year of 1977.
Between 78-79, I worked for a year at the Centre for Policy Research, and then a year at the Planning Commission. In early 1980, I joined NTPC where I stayed for more than 30 years.
Besides the Corporate Centre, I have been stationed at various projects in Allahabad, Lucknow, Kawas (Surat) and Badarpur.
The high point of my career I would regard as the transfer of the Badarpur Thermal Power Plant from the Ministry of Power to NTPC in 2006 which I anchored being the Head of Finance, at Badarpur Thermal Power Station. The responsibility was massive, and so was the satisfaction at the smooth transition.
Currently I am engaged in lecturing and consultancy.
My wife Madhumita is a Hindustani Classical (khayal) and semi-classical (Thumri, Dadra etc) vocalist belonging to the Gwalior & Rampur Saheswan Gharana.
She is a performing artiste, and travels across India and abroad for work. She also teaches music, and is at the moment a Guru at the Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra. Her music can be accessed on YouTube, and other apps like Gaana etc.
My daughter Shreya trained and worked as a journalist, and later did a Masters in Development Studies from IDS, Sussex. She is an independent writer and consultant with the development sector, and is also training in music, under her mother.
