R. KANNAN
D17
Known to the Class of ’76 as Kannan, I am now officially Roy Kannan. Roy is my first/given name.
Back in ’76 I was one of the three or four people in the batch who chose IT as their field of work. I’ve stuck to it these last 40 years and currently work for Gartner in the role of Executive Partner. Have contemplated retirement a few times, but too scared to take that step.
The low points in my life brought major upheavals in their wake but they’ve made me a more spiritual person. I use that term knowing it’s become a cliché. Turned vegetarian on 21 January 1991 when I decided I don’t want to see corpses on my dinner plate. Turned teetotaller around six years ago when my liver almost decided to stop living.
Was lucky shaping enough to marry a lovely woman, and we have a great daughter. We call Singapore home.
Wish I could come up with a list of hobbies or serious pastimes, but afraid I don’t have any. The ideal escape for me is someplace mountainous. Books have played a big part in my thinking over the years. Most of the impactful books have been on matters spiritual. I was an ardent Harry Potter fan during the heydays. Got hold of each book on its day of release and saw each movie on its day of release.
