I completed Chemical Engineering at NIT Surathkal in 1973 and worked with M/s Anil starch Ltd, Ahmedabad as Project Engineer, for one year. My plans to do MS were scrapped, when I was selected for IIMA. 

 

Immediately after my PGDBM in 1976, I joined SICOM as Development Officer. After about a year I was deputed as Project Officer to Industrial processes Maharashtra Ltd. They were commissioning new project at MIDC Tarapore, Maharashtra. 

 

In 1978, I joined Garware Marine ltd to set up their new plant at Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. And I had to shift base to Ahmednagar. After the plant was commissioned, I was asked to manage the production at the new plant. 

 

Soon after in 1980, I set up my own company Sea Fabrics Pvt. Ltd to make fishing nets. From 1980 till date the business has grown and we diversified and started couple of firms. 

 

Starting from fishnet manufacturing at Ratnagiri, we, (my brother Abhijit and my father and I) established special purpose machine manufacturing at Kolhapur. We sell fishnets and machines all over India and also export to various European and African countries. 

 

Yet another backward integration landed us in extrusion of nylon monofilament. This is our basic raw material for the nets. The nets are used for fishing and also in agriculture for anti bird application, in fencing, in Defence sector as well as for sports, industrial and construction safety purposes. Similarly nylon monofilament has wide applications in Agriculture and Industry. 

 

Government of Maharashtra awarded “Government of Maharashtra Gaurav Chinha”, twice for our companies’. 

 

Subsequently; Bank of Maharashtra accorded us the “Gold Card” status for excellence in export performance. 

 

I am active in Rotary club. I have held various posts including that of the President, Assistant Governor, Governors’ area Aid etc. I also devote my time to being a farmer. I grow about 5 tons of cashew nuts along with world famous Alfonso Mangoes, avocados, coffee, vanilla etc. 

 

My wife Smita is herself an accomplished artist, singer, and writer. She has written several short stories. She has also published a book on Indian embroidery from London. She has given me support in all my ventures encouraged me when in doubt and it is just endless fun when she is around. 

 

My elder son Kaustubh is Electrical engineer from BHU. Subsequently he studied MS and MBA at university of Florida USA. He has set up and owns Aventusoft LLC, a company in Florida,USA, after working with Motorola for few years. 

 

He is married to Dr. Geetanjali and is blessed with twins. Aunsha and Nalini are our 2 years old grand daughters. Dr. Geetanjali, MBBS from Bombay University, has completed MS and also studied as fellow Endocrinologist at University of Madison, USA. She practices at West Palm Beach Florida. 

 

My younger son Kirit is Electronics Engineer from Bombay University and MS from Rutgers University. He married recently to Sonika. He lives in Somerset NJ and works with Samsung Electronics in N J USA as Product Manager. 

 

Sonika studied MBA at University of Rutgers,works as Chief Purchase Manager for import export company at New Jersey.
