In case Pallavi and I are not recognizable after 40 years:
From left to right – Nikhil, Pallavi, Aseem (older son) and Ann, and Kelsey and Sahil (younger son).
After graduating aka passing out from the Institute, I worked for Banco Royal Gaskets in Vadodara, followed by a longer innings as marketing manager of a subsidiary of Elecon Engineering in Vallabha Vidyanagar. In 1982, I moved to the US, taking time-honored path of student visa to be converted later to an H-1 visa on the way to permanent residency.
A graduate degree in Industrial Engineering from Oklahoma State University with specialization in an entirely different subject — Energy Management and Productivity Improvement whose time did not arrive until more than a decade later—landed me a job with a firm providing energy efficiency research and implementation services.
I worked in that corporate environment for about 10 years, chasing the ladder to Vice President of Marketing, before leaving and branching out on my own in 1993. Since then, I am working as consultant/advisor for government clients and energy utilities, assisting them with overseeing the design, implementation and evaluation of public policy programs to contain energy usage — often labeled as demand-side management.
My vocabulary of business buzzwords has somewhat faded and is now replaced by zero-net energy buildings, sustainable buildings, renewable resources, water-energy nexus, ratepayer protection and so on. Honorary work includes acting as an expert advisor to the U.S. Department of Energy and the US team participating in the development International Standards (ISO) on energy management.
Pallavi is a realtor, sort of dormant now. Our older son, Aseem, works for Facebook and Sahil works for the nonprofit arm of the Dana Farber Cancer Research Institute in Boston. We live in a suburb of the Greater Boston Area. If your travel plans include a visit to the US, more specifically to New England, please let us know and we can have a mini reunion.
