Mahesh Sharma is a single piece man..no joints here, the grain is a continuous flow. (Structure designers say one piece design is expensive, compact and naturally strong). Mahesh is born quant man, he loves to relate. The classroom is where he finally found himself.

 

Coming from a middle class family of Bhagalpur I went to local schools. My father believed in good education and egged us on to studies despite the fragile financial condition of the family then. After school I went to REC, Durgapur, IIT Delhi and then to IIMA. I am comfortable expressing myself in Hindi which earned me the nickname of "Hindi Sharma" at IIMA. After IIMA I joined U.P. Small Industries Corp, Ltd, Kanpur. Vinod Mittal (Late) and I were together for almost 3 yrs at UPSIC. I have many fond memories of that period, particularly the task of turning around a loss making unit.

 

I went back to my home town in Bhagalpur and stared a small scale unit. Unfortunately, the did could not survive the vagaries of Bihari business environment; (which has not improved much since then. A God sent opportunity to teach at the local Govt Engineering College arose at that moment: they did not have a teacher for Operations Research and Engineering Economics. Initial experience was enjoyable so I joined as a full time faculty in 1983.This change was very satisfying as I loved teaching. I have now been teaching for the last 34 years. I retired in Feb 2017, but again due to paucity of good teachers, I was requested to continue on temporary basis.

 

My life partner Sushila came into my life in 1978, and has been a supportive partner, during good time and bad. We have done "Sangaharsh" and continue enjoying the same in the afternoon of our life.

 

Both my daughters are well educated and well settled in Mumbai. My grand kids are 4G compared to us 0G. I saw my first telephone - a fixed line - at age 7. God has also given us a very special job of supporting our only son Mayank (photo on left).

 

God has been kind; both of us enjoy good health, have good memories and are supported by stable and adequate finances.
