Pursued IIMA to escape the harsh weather and desolate, isolated Southern Bihar environment, where I worked with ICI. Higher education was the safety valve and a justifiable means to quit a job and get out of dodge way back in 1974, which was acceptable to parents who were footing the bill. I joined Ramani in making this transition from Gomia, Bihar, to Vastrapur.
After getting branded, joined Rohit Pulp and Paper Mills, Mumbai. Working closely with Deepak Raje, 1975 IIMA graduating class, managed and commissioned a new paper manufacturing line. Looking for further excitement, joined Lakme in 1978 to coordinate diversification into pharmaceutical business, the precursor to Tata Pharma.
Married Valsa and emigrated to USA in late December, 1980. Settled in Orange County, sunny Southern California, where we have remained to-date. We are blessed with two children, Regina and Rajeev, who currently are in Philadelphia and Valencia, California, respectively.
Rajeev got married to Evelin in February 2014. The wedding was celebrated in the traditional way at Kottayam, Kerala. The family has not expanded and remains as pictured here along with my mother.
All my professional life in USA was spent at Fluor, a global engineering, procurement, construction and project management company. I have slid into retirement after 35+years working on and managing world class heavy industrial projects. Dealing with a diverse variety of projects, locations and clients provided high level of excitement and satisfaction. Travelled on project work to all continents and 30+ countries. Throw in the fabulous So Cal location and the enviable weather, it was a dream come true. Valsa hates retirement and plans to work as long as she physically can because of the high performance and cordial team she created.
We welcome home any one passing through So Cal, Los Angeles or San Diego. Give us a ring.
